Kempo for short, Aiki Kempo Jiu Jitsu is a modern mix of a number of ancient arts.  It contains elements of Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Shiatsu, including self-defence, internal balance and healing skills.  Our style of kempo  is regarded as a “soft” martial art – which means that is doesn’t require lots of physical strength or involve regular abrupt physical movements.

Strictly, this is not a self defence class – and in any case no self defence class is a substitute for keeping yourself out of trouble.  However, training in Kempo is based upon self-defence, and will teach you useable self-defence skills.  Kempo should help you out if common sense didn’t!

Normal everday fitness is enough to practice Kempo, and Kempo will further help you improve your personal fitness and health – most people also find that it does a lot to reduce stress and improve their self-awareness.  Again however, it’s not strictly a fitness regime – we practice our martial art because we enjoy it.

Bucks Kempo, (formerly called Marlow Kempo), is a member of  the British Kempo Society; our instructor, Guy Gratton, received his dan grade (black belt) and instructors qualification from the BKS, and we also occasionally have guest instructors both from BKS and elsewhere.
